With all the hustle and bustle of adult hood, who wouldn’t be interested in getting outdoors and celebrating some family time with the kiddos? Really!! What if it could actually help you lose those pounds you found that just won’t seem to go away? I’m so tired, I can hear you saying in agony, but this will actually be fun, so let’s give it a shot.

Play Kickball
Even the smallest of your pack can throw a ball, so why not play kickball. This not only helps to engage and get your kids up and moving, but it’s an inexpensive way to alleviate stress and burn calories all at the same time. If they are too small to truly catch and kick the ball, then you can actually have them stand beside you and run after the ball once you have kicked it. This kind of turns the activity into a fun race where everyone is the real winner.

Play some Hoops
Lay-ups on the basketball court are another way of getting your cardio in. Ok, let’s admit that not everyone has the ability to embrace the inner athlete inside of them, but everyone can run up and down the court and shoot a little hoops. This helps to take the mundaness out of the activity, and release the stigma of cardio being boring and gets you moving in a positive calorie burning way. This can be done by just standing on one side of the court and dribbling the basketball down to the other side for a lay-up. Once the ball goes through the goal, you just line up going the other way in order to make it happen again. Do this over and over, increasing your speed or counting the times the ball actually goes through the hoop in order to track your progress. An added plus is that you can actually do this while listening to your favorite jam, and adding the little ones increases your chances of having fun.

Pet Season
Get a pet. The kids will love you for it, and the time outside will not only benefit them, but you as well. By incorporating your dog into your family’s exercise routine, you not only build stronger relationships, but you get rid of those unwanted calories as well. Fitness expert Jillian Michael’s suggest doing intervals where you run with your dog up and down hills or even rollerblading depending on the activity level of your pet aiming for at least 30 minutes a day. This will definitely add a different level of tiredness to the little ones, as they wind down for the day as well.
Get Moving
Whatever the case, lets get moving. Incorporating the family, is a great way to strengthen the family bond, and sweating together creates memories that they will never forget. This coupled with the pounds that you will lose, will make the journey more than worth it.
